Beauty editor Cassie Steer describes how she fell head over heels for this skin-soothing sweetheart

As love affairs go, it was a bit of a slow burner. When I was first introduced to this now iconic face mask I was working as a beauty editor on a glossy magazine and it remained in our beauty ‘cupboard’ (aka a Willy Wonker-esque room crammed full of all the latest beauty launches for us to test) for a good few weeks until I finally decided to take it home with me. It was mid-fashion week month and my skin was having a total melt down thanks to a combination of stress, lack of sleep and an over-zealous skincare regime where I had gone a little too hard on the retinol.

I was getting up at 4am that morning to jump on the train to Paris and I scoured my bathroom cabinet for something I could use overnight that might soothe my histrionic complexion. Sisley’s Black Rose Cream Mask was the first thing to hand so I slathered it on and collapsed into bed. By morning (make that the middle of the night) my skin was not only plump and hydrated, it was practically glowing. The rest, as they say, is history.

When it comes to face masks I’ve always erred more on the side of an acid-based, dead skin cell-obliterating dynamo. Pampering is all very well and good but being time-poor I’m more about seeing instant results. However, it turns out I shouldn’t have dismissed the nice guy because, boy, does it have transformative powers! It is now my go-to whenever I want my skin to look, well, better…

The perfect post-party accompaniment, it’s rich in anti-ageing actives including black rose and padina pavonica to smooth, soften and revitalise. I’m not usually a huge fan of rose scents but the delicate fragrance is quite simply delicious – when I wear it overnight (great for new mums like me who don’t have time for wash-off masks) I love that I get a subtle whiff every now and again.

In winter I’ll use the tiniest dab on those annoying dry patches at the side of my nose while in summer I’ll pop it in the fridge for a cooling, quenching antidote to a day spent in the sun. There’s a reason you’ll hear beauty experts often citing this skin hero as one of their top 10 products of all time. For me it’s most definitely ‘The One’ I keep coming back to time and time again.
