Assumed skincare wasn’t something you needed to worry about? Think again…

Whether you’re yet to delve into the weird and wonderful world of skincare or consider yourself a total expert, there’s always something new to learn. Right now, it’s all about switching up your skincare as the seasons change from winter to spring.

We enlisted the help of skincare expert and facialist Rhian Truman to give us all the tips and tricks you need to help spring clean your routine.

Keep it simple

‘My main tip for all men – even if you do nothing else – is to always cleanse your face before bed,’ explains Rhian. ‘Throughout the day our skin gathers pollution, sweat, sebum and dirt particles. It’s vital to cleanse away all the grime as our skin cells are regenerating as we sleep.’

If you’re new to the world of skincare, keep it simple. You don’t want to overcomplicate things from the offset, so choose a gentle cleanser targeted to your skin type.

Change with the seasons

‘Changing your skincare seasonally is always beneficial,’ says Rhian. ‘Our skin can struggle in the cold winter months, so naturally you’ll want to nourish it a little more to prevent sensitivity or redness. Then in the spring and summer months our sebaceous glands produce more sebum, so you may find yourself gravitating to a lighter moisturiser or serum.‘

Skincare is an investment, so pick products now that you can wear throughout spring and well into the summer months. Avoid heavy creams and balms as these will weigh down your skin, especially as temperatures rise.

Sunscreen isn’t just for your holidays

‘SPF is so important for everyone,’ Rhian explains. ‘People often make the mistake of only using SPF when the sun is out, but I would encourage application throughout the year. We need our skin to be protected from UV rays to prevent fine lines, pigmentation, broken capillaries and, of course, skin cancer. If you want to keep your skin as youthful as possible, remember your SPF.’

When it comes to picking an SPF, make sure that you’re getting one that’s targeted for your face. This will ensure that you’re getting the essential ingredients that your skin needs.

The wonder product to try

‘Of all the skincare products out there, the one that I recommend most is the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish,’ says Rhian. ‘It’s my all time favourite beauty product, one that I’ve converted most of my clients to and so far no one’s looked back. It’s great for all skin types, especially the sensitive ones.’
