This powerhouse cleaner has cured my lifelong wariness of beige carpets
Leave your judgment at the door and prepare to be amazed by the difference the Bissell SpotClean Pro has made to my home. I’m not overhyping this – I hoped it would do something to improve the appearance of stains, but I was equal parts disgusted (with myself) and impressed by the results. I’m renting and for some unfathomable reason my home has a large beige rug in the living room. Why any landlord would buy pale soft furnishings is beyond me, because even when I moved in I could see marks and stains. Two years later, the rug looked grubbier than ever (as you’ll soon see) and my own clumsy ways weren’t exactly helping matters. We needed help.
What is it?
Bissell has been making vacuums for more than a hundred years and its SpotClean Pro is a lightweight, portable cleaner that uses warm water, detergent, a brush and powerful suction to remove stains from carpets and upholstery – even old stains.

Efficient, effectiveI saw results right away on old stains that pre-date my tenancy – so we’re not just removing fresh spills here. I love that the water tanks are removable, it’s not too noisy and you don’t need to be a weightlifter to use it.
Great valueUnder £200 to guarantee I’ll get my deposit back when I move, to not be scared every time I walk around with a cup of tea, to be able to have people over and not be ashamed? Priceless.
Compact designThis packs a lot of power but tidies away to fit neatly on a cupboard shelf with my regular vacuum cleaner, so I don’t feel like all the machines are taking over. It’s easy to move around too.

Is it worth it?
Is the Bissell SpotClean Pro any good? You’ve seen the evidence (much to my eternal shame). I wasn’t sure whether it was worth giving precious cupboard space to another vacuum but now I’ve seen the results, I’m glad I gave this a try. I’ve even used it on a sofa to give it a freshen up. Everything looks so fresh and so clean.
