A mop and vacuum cleaner in one? Spoiler - it's the best thing to happen for home cleaning

I’ll be honest: I spend my life hoovering. Not because I’m some secret hoover obsessive but because I have three young children. One of whom has recently started weaning and crawling and seems to purposefully trail broccoli scones from one room to the other, like she’s leaving crumbs for Hansel and Gretel.

So when I was asked to test the Bosch Unlimited 7 Aqua I knew I was the right person to put it through its paces. The fact it transforms into a mop at the click of a button with no heavy bucket splashing water everywhere? That just made it sound even dreamier.

What is the Bosch Unlimited 7 Aqua?

It’s a 2in1 cordless vacuum cleaner and mop that comes with a state of the art Dynamic Aqua head for use on any hard floor type, from wood to laminate and tiles. The mop head has a high power suction channel to remove dust and loose dirt while two spinning pads, which are permanently supplied with fresh water (and floor cleaner if you choose to add it), wipe away stubborn stains.

A pump built into the Aqua head automatically provides water to the spinning cleaning pads every 20 seconds to ensure the pads are wet enough for thorough, effective cleaning. Better still, the floor dries in next to no time as the spinning cleaning pads don't need to use as much water as a mop - so no walking around with wet socks. If, like me, you need more water to deal with a particularly stubborn one-day old raspberry stain you can simply adjust the amount you need with a water control button.

When it's time to vacuum your carpet or rug, you can swap to the separate anti-tangle Dynamic Power Brush at the click of a button, for suction which can pick up 99.9% of dust.

There’s a long-lasting battery that gives you 40 minutes runtime and it comes with a wall mounted docking station so you can store and charge the Unlimited 7 Aqua really easily for grab-and-go cleaning.

What makes it so special?

There are plenty of things that make this a standout product to invest in. One of my favourites is the clever AutoDetect technology which automatically adjusts the airflow depending on your floor type, meaning you'll never need to manually change between carpet and hard floor settings again. There are also three different power modes Eco, Turbo and Auto to increase or decrease the suction level AND the brush head has powerful integrated LED headlights to illuminate dirt and dust.

Secondly, the handy tags on the edge of the spinning pads make them really easy to remove when you want to wash them (at 40⁰C FYI) and there's no dirty water tank to empty when you finish mopping because the fabric pads absorb the moisture at 200 rotations per minute.

Lastly, with just one click you can bend and straighten the flexible main column, which allows you to get the 180° compact head under furniture and into corners or along edges really easily.

The verdict: is it worth it?

I'd have to say a resounding yes. There's literally nothing I don't like about the Unlimited 7 Aqua. It's lightweight, super compact to store in even the smallest of houses and the ease of swapping from the mop to the hoover head has made me mop way more than usual.

As well as working so well for me with three kids, I can see this model would also be brilliant for pet owners who want to vacuum up pet hairs and mop muddy pawprints away.

At £500 it's definitely a high price point but if you factor in that you're getting two products for the price of one and couple that with the generous warranty, it's an investment worth making.
